Top 4 Reasons Why You Should Visit Ubud

1. Yoga
Ubud is definitely a yogi heaven on earth. Packed with people wearing yoga suit, hanging yoga mats on their bodies, gathering in a vegan restaurant and discussing about spiritual experiences during their yoga session. Ubud has become one of the best places to lay your mat and start doing yoga. Many come to Ubud driven by the passion for healthy living. It’s truly a great place to explore alternative healing – both mentally and physically. Not only doing yoga, you can also visit an ashram, or lose yourself at a meditation retreat.

2. Sacred Monkey Forest
You are not in Ubud if you do not come to the Sacred Monkey Forest Ubud. Located in the heart of Ubud, an age-old protected site is a home for hundreds of playful monkeys. The long-tailed macaques in Ubud’s Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary are believed to be descended from Hindu monkey-God Hanuman.
If you are staying in Ubud Aura Retreat you can enter north into Jalan Hanoman, which leads you to a left turn towards the sanctuary.

3. Art, Culture, Craft
There is nowhere else in Bali more saturated with art shops, galleries, and painting workshops than Ubud. Numerous villages around Ubud specialize in arts and crafts (egg painting, wood carving, stone carving, batik painting etc). As you drive through Ubud, you can’t help but notice that all the homes provide arts and crafts workshops along with mini stores to sell their goods. You will also see locally based expats with tiny designer stores selling clothing, jewelry, and home decoration.

4. Rice Field
There are several lovely walks through the rice paddies and small villages surrounding Ubud. We started out on a very nice walking tour that we read about in Lonely Planet but then made up our route as we went. Here you take the path to the left and follow the walkway that crosses the river to Pura Gunung Lebah. From there it is easy, just follow the concrete path north, that takes you up a hill with beautiful views over two river valleys and small villages.
